DVD of the Day - "Herbie Hancock & Headhunters"

DVD of the Day
Herbie Hancock's Headhunters: "Watermelon Man" (Jazz Door) 2009

Flimed live in Tokyo, Japan, on August 20, 2005, this DVD mixes images from two sold-out concerts. A short opening version of "Watermelon Man" (Roy Hargrove plays the melody on trumpet after Munyungo Jackson reproduces the famous intro recorded by Bill Summers using a beer bottle on the 1973 "Head Hunters" debut LP) is followed by extended great performances of "Spider," "Safiatou" (featuring Lionel Loueke on guitar & vocals), "Actual Proof" (a showcase for the incomparable guitarist Wah Wah Watson), "Hang Up Your Hang Ups" and the encore "Butterfly".
Marcus Miller (electric bass), Terri Lyne Carrington (drums) and Munyungo Jackson (percussion) complete the dream-team. Essential.
