Single of the Day - "Esther Phillips: 'Til My Back Ain't Got No Bone"

Single of the Day (45rpm, pic sleeve)
Esther Phillips: "'Til My Back Ain't Got No Bone / Scarred Knees" (CTI) 1972

The first single from Esther's debut album on CTI's subsidiary Kudu label, recorded in December 1971 at Van Gelder Studio.
Featuring Hank Crawford, Richard Tee, Gordon Edwards, Bernard Purdie, Airto Moreira, Cornell Dupree & Eric Gale.
Both tracks were arranged by Jack Wilson: Eddie Floyd's "Til My Back..." (a radio-edit favorite in early 72) and J.W. Tyrone's soulful blues "Scarred Knees", on which Esther does a fantastic solo, and a song she often performed during her live shows with the CTI All Stars, like happens on the "Live in Munich" set with solo spots to sax masters Hank Crawford and Stanley Turrentine.
